Anthem for doomed youth

The way the Author speaks throughout the poem, the way in which he describes both the battle as well as the mourning means that he has been in combat before. The poem is written in a way that leads the reader to believe that it is being written by someone deep in thought, looking back over his past battles as well as the consequences of them. The word “cattle” is used to describe the men – as they are seen as expendable, marching towards the slaughter.

  1. Hi Ben. You have begun to give an interesting response but this writing seems incomplete. I am also wondering where your work is on “Dulce et decorum est” and “Exposure”? Please publish this ongoing work as a record of your learning.
